Foxconn to Move Shenzhen Workforce, Reinvent Shenzhen Factories
March 11, 2011

Foxconn plans to move all of its manufacturing factories in Shenzhen, a coastal city of China, to inland provinces and transform these factories into "engineering campuses" that do pilot production only, according to a March 3, 2011 report by the Financial Times. It is estimated that Foxconn hires approximately one million people in China, and around half of the workforce is based at two factories in Shenzhen. Currently, Foxconn is building plants in two Chinese inland provinces, Henan and Sichuan. It is reported that Foxconn will move 200,000 jobs to inland provinces and adjust the number of employees working in Shenzhen to less than 300,000.
